Lobster Day on Sugarloaf

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Today as our neighbors put up shutters and watched the latest on Ernesto, we headed out with friends on their boat. Duval Street is shuttered up, no school tomorrow, tourist/non residents were evacuated and we are under a hurricane watch. It was a perfect sunny, breezy day on the water and we got 5 nice large lobsters. Mr. B put them on the boat grill and we had a feast! We headed in at sunset which was beautiful. Mia my friend told me she wants to take Pop Pop golfing on Monday the 4th when he is here at the Key West Golf Course. She is the womens leader in all the tournments and a great fun partner for the day. We'll probrably go with her and John on the boat one day too to Marvin Key. So, with that said...... I'm hoping for the easterly track so we don't get so much rain and water in the ghetto. We are not sweating this one at all, because now can close up everything very quickly if needed. We just hope that Nan and PopPop's plane has no delays on Thursday! The stars are out and by the time of their arrival all should be normal again with sunshine and stars.

Young Robin

Young RobinToday's excitement was provided by this young robin, who smacked himself into the large kitchen window. PopPop was a tiny bit pleased about this - not that the bird got hurt, but that he couldn't see the glass - since he had just washed the windows a couple days ago. Anyway, after sitting on PopPop's veggie collection basket for a while, then on the basketball hoop (had to move him from there, Little One was reaching for him), then in the wet grass, he finally flew off. There are mass quantities of robins in the yard lately, we must have had 5-6 nests hatch. There have been some other young birds flitting around that are clearly not robins, and today I finally realized they are young Baltimore Orioles. We had two pair in the lower yard this Spring. At least one pair nested successfully!

Logging in

Am I the only one who thinks the log in process has become more than a bit obtuse? As near as I can tell, if you have a multi-person blog like this one, you have to go around Dickie's meadow to get logged in. Here's the trick:
  1. manually type www.blogger.com in your browser's address bar.
  2. remove your password if it has been saved and is automatically there (in other words, erase the row of asterisks)
  3. manually type in your password
That seems to work for me (I'm using Firefox 1.5 fwiw). What a PITA. I get friggin' emails from everyone and their neighbor for NO good reason - someone please explain to me why nobody could bother to send out an email telling us how to log in to our blogs while Google goes through some growing pains upgrading Blogger.

Sheesh.

Dinu's ACL surgery

Dinu 08-18-06Dinu had his anterior cruciate ligament put back together yesterday morning. The surgeon said everything looked good (as if she would say anything else) and he should be fine in a few weeks. He was in a lot of pain yesterday when we first came home, but is feeling much better today. He has a pump dispensing a painkiller directly to the nerve in his knee, and that helps a lot. It is connected to a catheter in his femoral artery. He'll have that taken away on Monday and then it's just percocet, which will be fine.

However, I'm hoping his soccer days are over. I'd rather see him play cricket.

Mr. Bill is back!

Mr. Bill has returned from Alaska with lots of photos!

We're walking

new shoesYes indeed. Queenee and I have started walking after dinner. We could both stand to lose more than a few pounds, and our knees need the exercise. She doesn't walk as far nor as fast as I do, but that's to be expected. She'll be keeping up soon enough.

I wear my Crocs for walking and they've been great, good support and cushioning for my crippled ankles and feet. The new Chuck Taylors are strictly for fashion - my poor tootsies wouldn't last long if I had to wear these for exercise walking, but for strolling they are grand and design-wise they couldn't be more appropriate.

Alaska July. 2006 - 3   Alaska July. 2006 - 2

Mr. Bill emailed for some receipes, and I emailed back. The response was from Dan, the person with the email account. He mentioned he would get the mail to Mr. Bill when he gets back from his wilderness hike!! LOL! He also sent me 3 pictures from his digital camera from July. Enjoy.

Coming In for a Landing

Today we did it all. Flickr has more...

Miss P is in Orlando enjoying her 21st Bday with friends and we headed out for our own celebration. It's raining like crazy now, we are glad it held off so we could enjoy the day.

Here are the videos: C and KeyDear and H&L getting dipped and dragged.

And then the rains came...

Made in the shade

AwningDeacon got this fab awning from a job. Sounds like the guy is replacing everything. There is a tear in the fabric, but who cares, it still shades the kitchen window and really helps keep the house cool. It's wonderful to have all that sun in the winter, but these 95F days we can do without the additional heat.

Deacon put it up on Saturday afternoon. PopPop is ordering an electrical switch box to install a proper control for extending and retracting the awning. Yup, it's powered!

Tarzan

Tarzan doesn't swing in the trees anymore... he has major equipment!

On another note.... Mr. Bill called this afternoon! The fishing guide took him out halibut fishing to his "honey hole" where the fish are plentiful and you can get cell phone reception to call your honey. He is thrilled and having an extraordinary time. Has taken lots of pictures and sends everyone a Big Alaskan Hello!!
