Early Evening at the Beach

We went for a very late afternoon snorkel and swim today at Bahia Honda Beach. We observed a variety of small conchs but no queen conchs. The turtle grass is coming back and many juvenile fish are everywhere. We watched a dozen tall hats play around a piece of driftwood in 5 Ft of water. Today is the first day of hurricane season and this beach is a perfect example of what last years season did to the seascape. Bahia Honda Beach has once again been voted #1 beach in America. The sand that washed in has made a much larger beach area, and the dunes have been replanted. The park service has done a fine job restoring this state park. Here are a couple pictures that show you just how large the beach around the island is now. Yes that is R and L fooling around. We left about 8pm and were home with plenty of daylight.

  1. It's easy to see why Bahia Honda is considered the best beach - but where are the people? Or are you locals trying to keep it a secret?

The light is beautiful and the beach looks terrific. So do the boys, R grew his hair out!

  2. This was the end of the day, the time we love most. On the holiday last weekend we were going to go and visit with friends but got a call that they shut off entry to the beach due to no parking available and that we couldn't get in. Weekends are busy but the beach is never crowded like Miami beaches. During the week is the best time to go. Remember most locals have boats and go to beaches not accessible by car. It has been a long long time since you were on this beach!! Everyone is due for a trip down here. R's hair is longer than mine now.. it looks good too.
