Mary Poppins

I haven't watched the movie Mary Poppins in years, because I find it depressing. It's almost as bad as Dumbo. Every single time I come across Dumbo on tv, regardless of the channel or time of day, I see the "Baby Mine" scene, where the mother elephant has been locked up and is singing to tiny Dumbo, cradled in her trunk. Absolutely the saddest hour in cinema I have ever seen. And now I'll have a brainworm for a week and be unable to get that image out of my head.

Back to Mary Poppins ... when I first saw this movie, I was about 7 years old. I started crying during the Feed the Birds song and didn't stop until well after we were home. When we were in the car and on our way home, Queenee asked me if I'd like to see the movie again, and I sobbed through my tears, "Not tonight". It never occurred to me that Mary Poppins could be scary.
