Christmas 2006

Charlie Brown Tree
Christmas 2006 was a hectic day for some, but was fun for all. BluePhan and Quackers spent the night and got up at 4:30am to surprise PopPop with a visit from Santa! DamCat and Deacon came early and we had coffee and began opening presents. Dog, FluffyDuf and her brother David arrived early afternoon and round two of present opening commenced. Shortly after that, DamCat's brother John came with Chris and the baby, who was good as gold. He watched all the commotion around him, but never cried or fussed once. By the end of the evening we were all tired (and some of us were barely able to speak or stand...) and ready for a good night's sleep.

Virtual presents were a big hit this year. I am looking forward to trying out my new submarine in the lake on my Tuscan wine estate. The fab pedicab will be handy for those quick errands into town. Maybe I can get George Clooney to go with me. I don't know about that diamond encrusted bra, though, that may not fit. Still, it's an incentive to lose some poundage!

Of course, the big present this year is DamCat's new house. I'm sure the girls can't wait to decorate next year!

The Twelve Days Till Christmas

NORTH   LOL

FOODSanta and his reindeer came to our abode last night to celebrate the beginning of the twelve days of Christmas. We managed to get a couple snapshots before they left to go back to the North Pole. Perchance we will be able to get a few more pictures before Christmas time is over ;) enjoy!

Christmas is Coming

CudjoeKrew Christmas tree number 1I can't tell you how many different Christmas Trees we have had over the years. Being on a tropical island poses the problem of finding just the right tree. I have had the traditional fur trees live and fake and they just cry out, "What am I doing here?" My personal favorite was a scrappy pine of 25 feet with the trunk some 9 feet before the branches extended for the ornaments. It didn't go over big with the family though. The other native small long needled one didn't either and was a bad choice because it was hard to hang ornaments on. The sap was evil also. The traditional trees that are trucked down the island chain are always expensive and usually dry out within a week no matter how much water you provide. I've lost a few "fake" ones with the lights prestrung on them to flood waters and they are in some land fill now in Honduras I'm pretty sure. This year I try again... I wanted an old German feather tree. Expensive is the word here. I didn't plan ahead or I'd have made one myself. Maybe next year. This $19.99 one from Walgreen collapses in an instant so set up is fantastic! It does need a couple friends (trees) so I can put all my ornaments up. I would love to have three, this one, a tall feather one, and a cute shorter one to cluster them like a magical forest in the house. Spread the village into townships below them.... All on different marble top round tables. I think the best part of the holiday is putting up the tree and pulling out the nutcrackers and garland, the ribbons and bows, the colored lights and the holiday dishes. I amuse myself each year with this because it's hard not to be with family up north with the traditional sweet smelling trees and snow that we all fantasize about down here in the south. Hearing "I'll be home for Christmas" puts pangs in our hearts not to be at the homestead. Key West at Christmas sometimes feels like the island of misfit toys but somehow our dreams put us close to the ones we love. The Krew wishes everyone much Holiday love and warm thoughts of all that makes you happy.

Mary Poppins

I haven't watched the movie Mary Poppins in years, because I find it depressing. It's almost as bad as Dumbo. Every single time I come across Dumbo on tv, regardless of the channel or time of day, I see the "Baby Mine" scene, where the mother elephant has been locked up and is singing to tiny Dumbo, cradled in her trunk. Absolutely the saddest hour in cinema I have ever seen. And now I'll have a brainworm for a week and be unable to get that image out of my head.

Back to Mary Poppins ... when I first saw this movie, I was about 7 years old. I started crying during the Feed the Birds song and didn't stop until well after we were home. When we were in the car and on our way home, Queenee asked me if I'd like to see the movie again, and I sobbed through my tears, "Not tonight". It never occurred to me that Mary Poppins could be scary.

BluePhan's birthday

The young women

She's 17 already! It's hard to believe, the time has flown by so quickly. You turn your back for just a moment and the giggly little girl has become a composed young woman.

Queenee, PopPop and I went out to dinner at The Sun Tavern in Duxbury with Barbara, Mark and Rich. I had Beef Wellington, which was very good, and Queenee enjoyed her lamb. She wanted to order the duck, but was sure she would be disappointed, having been spoiled by Mr. Bill's most excellent duck. PopPop ordered Veal Oscar and thought it average at best, but he is rather picky about these things. PopPop's bow Maybe he should have worn the bow out to dinner...

After dinner, we went back to the house for some cards and to celebrate BluePhan's birthday. She opened her presents, then lost some money playing poker. I think Mark and Mom probably lost, the rest of us came out a bit ahead. I did really well for the first few hands, then cooled dramatically. Oh well.

DamCat had picked up an ice cream cake and we had that and sang a round of Happy Birthday. All in all, a fun evening.

webwabbit takes a bath

Now this really sucks. I know my fellow bloggers have things to post about, and it only takes a few minutes. But I'm reduced to posting about taking a bath to fill the dead air in here.

So...tonight, I had a bath. For those of you who are healthy and limber enough to be able to get in and out of a bathtub, this will seem like a stupid thing about which one would be so pleased. However, if you have been unable to bend one knee for a few years and have no elbows and wrists to hoist yourself up with sans two legs, it is a big deal. I always loved soaking in the tub and I have the accoutrements to prove it. It took me a good long time to scrub the tub out to begin with - something I did seated in a chair and bending over. The downside to having knee replacement surgery is that you cannot, under any circumstances, be on your hands and knees, and you cannot imagine how inconvenient that can be. Anyway, having a sparkling clean tub tempted me to try lowering myself into the bath for a soak. What a treat. And by using one arm on the edge of the tub and a safety rail with the other hand, I was able to get enough of my legs under me to pull myself up. Success! I can once again lounge in a hot bath without needing help to haul myself out!

webwabbit is 50

Maxine and 50 rosesI'm not inclined to do much celebrating on my birthday. It always seemed to be just another day to me, and honestly, this one would have been no different. But that's what family is for, right?

Dinu stopped by in the morning with flowers and a couple cards, then left. PopPop and I spent the day puttering around while Queenee went to a 90th birthday party for Beverly's father.

Dog and FluffyDuf arrived at about 6:30pm and a bit after 7pm, DamCat and Deacon came bearing mass quantities of Chinese food. The girls made their own wonderful cards and H found a beautiful turtleneck sweater that is perfect for me, my favorite chartreuse green! DamCat gave me a lovely green marble rabbit, which now has a place of pride on my computer.Maxine's new blanket Queenee found lots of things for me - several pairs of socks (which are great because it's something I always forget to buy for myself), sweats and pj's (my uniforms), a Munch The Scream t-shirt, ginger, a beautiful wooden box (y'all know how I love boxes), sugar scrub ... well, she went crazy, as usual. And FluffyDuf found a blanket with skulls! How cool is that?

Queenee got me 50 roses; they are so beautiful, we refuse to take them off the table. Queenee also got me my favorite cake, carrot cake, on which H creatively spelled out 50 with the candles (since she was a couple candles short of actually having 50). I failed to blow them all out, but I think that's just as well, since I would have ended up coughing and spitting all over the cake and that's just gross.

The highlight of the evening was Helium Karaoke. C was hysterical, doing her interpretations of Abba and The Band. I have some of it on video and will link to it when I get it edited. She had us in tears, we were laughing so hard. [Edit: here are the videos - I'm comin' out, Fernando, and last, but definitely not least, The Weight.]

We had a great time, and I enjoyed my birthday in spite of myself. Thanks, everyone!

Dinu - US citizen

Dinu - US citizenThe whole process is finally complete and he has reached his goal. Dinu is a US citizen.

The ceremony itself was only about 20 minutes, maybe 25 minutes. The wait was forever. His appointment was at 9am, and if he has learned nothing else from me, he has learned to be early for appointments of importance. Unfortunately, I was also there at 8:30am, because I thought he needed a copy of our marriage certificate and might have forgotten to take it with him. Turned out he didn't need it, so I didn't need to be there before about noon.

Anyway, having arrived at 8:30am, he got in the queue, turned in his green card and went into the Hynes auditorium to his seat. He was lucky to get an end seat in about the eighth row. I went upstairs to the visitors balcony and found a good seat. And then the wait began.

The appointment form tells you that the ceremony may take six hours. What it *should* tell you is, bring a book, or a magazine, or something to entertain yourself, because 5-1/2 of those 6 hours will be spent sitting in a rather uncomfortable chair, waiting. Those of us in the balcony had some small measure of padding on our seats. The wretched masses on the floor were sitting on metal folding chairs.

Dinu's 9am appointment was the earliest scheduled check-in, along with maybe 200 others. Altogether, 1804 people became citizens during this ceremony, and we were told that is a smaller than usual group. Average is closer to 3000. I sure hope they break that into a morning and afternoon session.

All that is left is getting a passport, and he's done. At last he is beholden to no one.

Wilma's Anniversary

the birthday gang!Well....... another year and alot of changes. What a perfect summer with no storms, gorgous weather, plant growth and eased tensons. Everyone is thankful for it!
We all gathered and had a party on my bday anniversary which last year was insane.
I'm older and wiser... well, may be.,
I will be sure to take a before, after to add to this post showing what a difference a year makes. I wish that as I grow older that I would get better looking... funny thing about nature,,, but it's all good with me. My eyes are still working fine and if I never had a mirror again my views would be wonderul. This year was a rebirth for our islands, and my moisturizer may be making new rings around me! HA
Been busy keeping up with Fantasy Fest FunSeekers. More tomorrow...

Uhhh ...

toilet costumeWant the crap kicked out of your kid every day for the rest of the school year? Send him out dressed up as a toilet for Halloween.

This is for sale on a lot of websites - $34.95 for the child size and $59.95 for the adult size. I saw one site where the adult size was sold out for this year.

I really don't have anything more to say about this, except without looking very hard, you can find much worse costumes.

Thumbelina

ThumbelinaIs this the cutest horse on the planet or what?
Standing just 17 inches tall, she is never going to be a champion show-jumper.

In fact, the tiny mare is so small she would struggle to leap over a bucket.

But such things are of little concern for feisty Thumbelina who has just been officially recognised as the world's smallest horse.

The five-year-old received the title from the Guinness Book of Records after her astonished owners realised she was never going to grow any bigger.

She was born on a farm in America to a couple who specialise in breeding miniature horses.

These popular show horses usually weigh about 250lb and reach a height of 34 inches when they are fully grown.

But when Thumbelina was born, it was immediately clear she would never grow to this size.

At birth she weighed 8lb - the weight of many new-born babies - and eventually she grew to a mere 60lb.

Thumbelina's extraordinary size has been put down to dwarfism, which makes her a miniature of a miniature...
What a precious! She lives at Goose Creek Farm in St. Louis, MO. I imagine she is quite an attraction.

Political ads

I've been watching the various political ads with some interest, and at this point, I think whoever is managing Kerry Healey's campaign should be fired. Healey is the Republican candidate for Governor in Massachusetts this November. She has two really poor ads running right now. Let's take a look at them, shall we?

The first is a typical Republican scare tactic - you don't want a Democratic Governor *and* a Democratic Legislature, because that would amount to one party rule. D'oh. I guess it's ok on the federal level, but not good on the state level. Stupid. So stupid it isn't available on her website.

But the second one is, and it's even worse. Some jackass escaped convict kills a young cop who was on his way home (presumably to his 'young' family - I wonder how they would have worded this ad had the officer been 55 years old and divorced). The killer is convicted and a "liberal" Governor signs off on the death penalty. Deval Patrick is hired to mount an appeal and does so somewhat successfully, getting the death penalty overturned and the sentence reduced. The point of this ad is that lawyers have the right to defend criminals, but do you want one as your Governor? Are they serious? So, obviously, Patrick is:
  1. WAAAAY too liberal, since he was appealing a case that a "liberal" Governor had already agreed was worthy of the death penalty
  2. a lawyer who chooses to defend scumbags
  3. obviously not someone anyone with a heart would want as their Governor
The real problem with this particular ad is that it shows absolutely no grasp of the founding principles on which this country was based. Right to a fair trial anyone? If the Healey camp has a problem with allowing appeals in death penalty cases, they need to work to change the law. The ad iterates that a lawyer "has the right to choose to defend" someone. Wrong. Lawyers have a legal obligation to defend the accused. I guess nobody in Healey's office knows or cares about that little technicality.

And let's not forget that *her* public education through high school counts for more than anyone else's. Oh, and with Sean Healey's enormous wealth ready to help the candidacy of his wife, Kerry, he is the Republican campaign's secret weapon. That would be a negative if she were a Democrat, but a wealthy spouse is fine in her case. Oooh, and there's this: By all accounts highly intelligent, 45-year-old Kerry Healey is academic and wonkish by both training and inclination.. But isn't the current crop of conservatives highly distrustful of intelligence, preferring a swaggering wanna-be cowboy to be in charge? What are these people thinking? I haven't seen one ad that makes any mention of what her plans are if she wins the election. I wouldn't vote for her on a bet.

Patrick is taking the high road so far. His ads speak to what he hopes to do (not how, mind you, but no politician ever goes there in ads), rather than what a screw-up the campaign of his primary opposition is. Healey is mentioned obliquely, if at all.

Christy Mihos has the best ad by far. Why is the Big Dig $12 Billion over budget? Watch and learn.

One more thing. Mihos has a Canine Coordinator, his Yorkshire Terrier named "Reagan". I'm really liking this guy.

Just to cover the fourth candidate running for MA Governor, Grace Ross is the Green/Rainbow Party candidate. Green/Rainbow, isn't that something of an oxymoron? I don't think I've seen a single tv commercial for her yet. Maybe I just don't watch enough television.

Blue heron

Blue heronPopPop was going down the deck stairs this morning and this enormous blue heron flew up into the trees. What he was doing in the backyard is anyone's guess. After a bit he flew off, probably closer to the pond.

We're having Indian summer this week. The temperature has been in the 60's and 70's and should stay there until Saturday, when we may get our first real frost. I love autumn, it's my favorite season by far. It doesn't look like we'll get good color in the trees this year, but we can hope.

American Art at the MFA

Queenee and I had a couple days of adventuring this week. Monday afternoon she had an appointment with a physical therapist about the edema in her right arm. We'll be going back there next week for the actual therapy, once the proper bandages and wraps are obtained. Afterward we went to the Burlington Coat Factory looking for bargains.

Tuesday she had an appointment with our orthopedic surgeon, who is delighted with how she is getting along with her two new knees. After the hospital visit, we had dinner at a little Turkish diner called the Anadolu Cafe. They are at 1022 Comm Ave, almost across the street from the Paradise. The food was very good, especially the Icli Kofte - we could have each ordered a few of those and made them the meal.

Boy with a Squirrel (detail) After dinner, we went to the Boston MFA for a brief lecture about the MFA's American art collection. Afterward, we had the galleries almost to ourselves. There were about 200 people there (it was a members thing), which meant you could actually enjoy walking through and seeing the art. Several of the curators were on hand to answer questions and discuss their favorite pieces. One of mine is this charming portrait by John Singleton Copley that just happens to include a Southern flying squirrel. Deacon's favorite painting, Thomas Cole's Expulsion from the Garden of Eden, was also on view.

We had just been to the museum last week to see the Americans in Paris exhibit. I especially wanted Queenee to see Whistler's Mother before it left town. She was surprised at the size, expecting it to be smaller than it actually is.

I know, I know, it's all just more excitement than most folks can stand.

Citizenship

Just a quick post to let everyone know that Dinu passed his US citizenship exam/interview on Monday! He'll be taking the oath in November. Although he is allowed to maintain dual citizenship, he says he will be relinquishing his Indian passport, which is an excellent excuse to go to NYC.

Sophia's squirrel

Southern flying squirrel, photo from ScarySquirrel.orgSophia has proven to be quite the hunter. Considering she is not allowed out (she goes right to the street) you would think she wouldn't know much about hunting, never mind actually catch things. When I was in NY, she caught several mice that were in the house. Last night, she caught a flying squirrel.

I haven't seen one for ages. They are common enough, but nocturnal, so you rarely see them unless you are lucky enough to be in the woods at dusk and have one glide past you. Or if the squirrel is unlucky enough to be in the house and within reach of a cat.

I was on the computer last night when I heard loud squeaking and saw Sophia charging from the kitchen through the dining room and into the living room with something the size of a small rat hanging out of her mouth. She had it by the head and at first I thought she had already killed it. However, when I followed her into the living room, she was happy to show off her catch by turning it loose. Of course, that meant she got to catch it all over again. I trapped the poor thing in a plastic container and had a good look at it. The good news is that the squirrel wasn't hurt. No blood, no holes, just a pissed off flying squirrel. I'm sure he's much happier across the stone wall where I released him.

Sophia was not pleased to lose the squirrel to me. She's been trailing around behind me all day today. I suspect she thinks I've hidden her squirrel somewhere and if she keeps an eye on me, it's just a matter of time before she'll have it back.

Queenee's birthday

flowers for QueeneeAfter last night's card game when she was saying goodnight to the assembled company, the Queen saw all the beautiful mums that the girls had distributed around the front walkway. What a nice surprise from Key Dear! Today we'll enjoy the beautiful weather and have a cookout with the Damcats and maybe with the Dawgs, if they listen to their messages. More photos will no doubt follow.

Closer

I've always thought this would be a great song for walking down the aisle, but that's just me. This mash-up video is, well, see for yourself. It's Star Trek, so the video itself is worksafe, but the music is not. Bless you, Trent Reznor.

Boring

Ok, ladies, I admit it, I lead a boring life. I sit in front of a computer most days and I don't have children to brag about. I could talk endlessly about my cats, but speaking of boring... I went to Ikea a couple weeks ago with a girlfriend, but is that blog-worthy? Honestly, my fellow bloggees, have we run out of info to post? I know there are Maine photos, Florida photos, and all the kids are back in school, so wassup ma bitches?

Should we enlarge our scope? Our should I just take it over and proceed with my original intent of tv commercial criticism?

An example: can someone explain to me why small lizards are used to sell car insurance? I love geckos, I loved watching them roam around the walls and ceilings of pretty much every hotel I ever stayed in in Hawaii (particularly the Pioneer Inn in Lahaina, Maui, highly recommended). But do they really represent some kind of selling point to the American public? Was someone at Geico having a brain-fart that day and thought a typo was a great idea for a commercial? Is there anyone who buys car insurance based on the word of a CGI gecko?? And I'm speaking from experience - we can't get Geico insurance here in Taxachusetts, but I had them for years in NY, and from a purely consumer pov, they were just fine. However, I would no more buy car insurance because of the cute gecko than I would go to Taco Bell because of the chihuahua. Do they serve ground canine? Is that the message? Why did Spuds McKenzie sell Bud Light? The Clydesdales I understand, they pull the beer wagon. I understood the marketing behind the Swedish Bikini Team Buy a beer, get a broad ads. But dogs and frogs and lizards? I don't get it.

Where is McLuhan when we need him?

Lobster Day on Sugarloaf

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Today as our neighbors put up shutters and watched the latest on Ernesto, we headed out with friends on their boat. Duval Street is shuttered up, no school tomorrow, tourist/non residents were evacuated and we are under a hurricane watch. It was a perfect sunny, breezy day on the water and we got 5 nice large lobsters. Mr. B put them on the boat grill and we had a feast! We headed in at sunset which was beautiful. Mia my friend told me she wants to take Pop Pop golfing on Monday the 4th when he is here at the Key West Golf Course. She is the womens leader in all the tournments and a great fun partner for the day. We'll probrably go with her and John on the boat one day too to Marvin Key. So, with that said...... I'm hoping for the easterly track so we don't get so much rain and water in the ghetto. We are not sweating this one at all, because now can close up everything very quickly if needed. We just hope that Nan and PopPop's plane has no delays on Thursday! The stars are out and by the time of their arrival all should be normal again with sunshine and stars.

Young Robin

Young RobinToday's excitement was provided by this young robin, who smacked himself into the large kitchen window. PopPop was a tiny bit pleased about this - not that the bird got hurt, but that he couldn't see the glass - since he had just washed the windows a couple days ago. Anyway, after sitting on PopPop's veggie collection basket for a while, then on the basketball hoop (had to move him from there, Little One was reaching for him), then in the wet grass, he finally flew off. There are mass quantities of robins in the yard lately, we must have had 5-6 nests hatch. There have been some other young birds flitting around that are clearly not robins, and today I finally realized they are young Baltimore Orioles. We had two pair in the lower yard this Spring. At least one pair nested successfully!

Logging in

Am I the only one who thinks the log in process has become more than a bit obtuse? As near as I can tell, if you have a multi-person blog like this one, you have to go around Dickie's meadow to get logged in. Here's the trick:
  1. manually type www.blogger.com in your browser's address bar.
  2. remove your password if it has been saved and is automatically there (in other words, erase the row of asterisks)
  3. manually type in your password
That seems to work for me (I'm using Firefox 1.5 fwiw). What a PITA. I get friggin' emails from everyone and their neighbor for NO good reason - someone please explain to me why nobody could bother to send out an email telling us how to log in to our blogs while Google goes through some growing pains upgrading Blogger.

Sheesh.

Coming soon - web wabbit explains her poor driver theory, with special emphasis on old men wearing hats and Donna's in red sports cars.

Dinu's ACL surgery

Dinu 08-18-06Dinu had his anterior cruciate ligament put back together yesterday morning. The surgeon said everything looked good (as if she would say anything else) and he should be fine in a few weeks. He was in a lot of pain yesterday when we first came home, but is feeling much better today. He has a pump dispensing a painkiller directly to the nerve in his knee, and that helps a lot. It is connected to a catheter in his femoral artery. He'll have that taken away on Monday and then it's just percocet, which will be fine.

However, I'm hoping his soccer days are over. I'd rather see him play cricket.

Mr. Bill is back!

Mr. Bill has returned from Alaska with lots of photos!

We're walking

new shoesYes indeed. Queenee and I have started walking after dinner. We could both stand to lose more than a few pounds, and our knees need the exercise. She doesn't walk as far nor as fast as I do, but that's to be expected. She'll be keeping up soon enough.

I wear my Crocs for walking and they've been great, good support and cushioning for my crippled ankles and feet. The new Chuck Taylors are strictly for fashion - my poor tootsies wouldn't last long if I had to wear these for exercise walking, but for strolling they are grand and design-wise they couldn't be more appropriate.

Water Sports Day

Coming In for a Landing

Today we did it all. Flickr has more...

Miss P is in Orlando enjoying her 21st Bday with friends and we headed out for our own celebration. It's raining like crazy now, we are glad it held off so we could enjoy the day.

Made in the shade

AwningDeacon got this fab awning from a job. Sounds like the guy is replacing everything. There is a tear in the fabric, but who cares, it still shades the kitchen window and really helps keep the house cool. It's wonderful to have all that sun in the winter, but these 95F days we can do without the additional heat.

Deacon put it up on Saturday afternoon. PopPop is ordering an electrical switch box to install a proper control for extending and retracting the awning. Yup, it's powered!

Tarzan

Tarzan doesn't swing in the trees anymore... he has major equipment!

On another note.... Mr. Bill called this afternoon! The fishing guide took him out halibut fishing to his "honey hole" where the fish are plentiful and you can get cell phone reception to call your honey. He is thrilled and having an extraordinary time. Has taken lots of pictures and sends everyone a Big Alaskan Hello!!

Who Knew??

How do I begin.... Mr. Bill and I got up early today to get him ready for his trip to Alaska. Last minute ironing, packing, etc. Polly has had back pains for a couple days and slept the night in Key West to go to work early morning at Margaritaville. Kids all asleep and Uncle Ken who came a couple days ago slept in as well. Coffee..... Lots of Coffee... The kids, Mr. B and I planned to drive him to Miami to get his flight, say our fare thee wells and hit the fun road to Parrot Jungle etc. etc... Beautiful day... Cool breezes.... Then it happened. The phone calls... Miss P called from work... Unable to move... Crying.. More pain than her accident, ankle surgery, whatever... Left work... Another call... I can't drive.. Crying in pain... I told her to sit in car.... I"m on my WAY!... No no she says,,, I can do it... I say,,, I'll meet you at emergency room!! No no she sez,, I can get home ( all the while crying hysterically ) I ring my hands... I start ironing Mr. B's chef's clothes... I start panicking... Uncle Ken goes downstairs to do yard work.... Mr. B telling me to pack him... He needs this and that... I tell him he needs to go get his last minute things himself... Disposable camera, etc. etc. She arrives, I wake our little H (who won the draw the night before to sleep in miss P's bed alone) and tell her miss P has arrived and is in pain. She jumps up... And I knew Miss P was in a bad way. The kids all get up with questions.... When are we leaving? This will be great!... Miss P, cries and cries in pain... Let's go to the emergency room now I say.... She had called her Doctor and had an appointment at 2:30 and thought she could wait.... At noon we called the ambulance.... They said kidney stones... Get to emergency room, save the 1000.00 cab ride, they couldn't administer pain med's and they would call ahead and give them her vitals... Off we went...... Yes, after, IV, Blood work, Xray, C-scan etc. etc. a 4mm stone ... Mr. B is panicking... Kids are panicking, they wanted to keep her in hospital... Gave her awesome pain meds... Drips.... Nausea drip.... Oh yeah,,,, she was throwing up continually all morning and at hospital.
Needless to say.... Mr. B called a friend to take our truck to drive him to Miami, forgot his itinerary etc. etc.... He dropped the kids at ole' stand by Sugarloaf Pool while he did his last minute prep stuff... Picked up Mickey D's in KW and off he went! Uncle Ken took the bus to KW due to work in the morning... I got Miss P home and settled and took kids to get RX's.... Okay,,,, are you tired of reading yet? Okay,,,, I'll cut it short... Drop Med's off... Pet store closed.. Wait for Med's... Come home, give to Miss P... Find out they didn't give Pain Med's... Call Pharmacy... 8PM... They are closing... The Pharmacist tells me she will meet me on her way home from work at a set local... I wait in a parking lot... We do a drug deal in parking lot.. (I'll go and pay tomorrow) She knew Miss P needed Pain Pills.... Come home... RED SOX are on... Try to watch game with kids... L & H do their phone calls to friends... Miss C Miss P and I yelling at TV... Get call to Fax Mr. B his plane information.. Get Nan's call... She WILL have a good exam for her arm tomorrow!!!!!! ... Okay,,,, Mr. B.... Love you call... Miss C makes Chocolate Mousse desert with the Magic Bullet..... OH YEAH... Miss P wakes up for 9th inning WIN!!! OH yeah... All done... All okay... Miss P just walked by me finally ready to eat something after 3 days... Looks over my shoulder.... Don't you dare write about me!!!! Bull she*t... Go to bed,,, drink your water.... Go strain your pee for the stone.... Are you still with me??? ... Okay,, guess what I do tomorrow? WAKE UP Mr. B for his flight!!! At 5 am... Go pay for the RX at 8am... 10 am Mr. L's friend gets dropped off... Mr. L has dental cleaning at noon, while we get stuff for cooler for beach... Let me tell yah.... At 1:30 tomorrow,,, I'll be sleeping under a coconut tree hoping one falls... JUST KIDDING
I just hope Miss P doesn't call with the :"Passing of the Stone": call. LOL
Are you STILL .... With me? Good.... Light a candle... Say a prayer... And know tomorrow will be a better day.... Good Night!!! I need my wine now, and the futon out on the upper deck... If a falling star hits me.... Know I went in PEACE...
Me and the Kids have major plans to keep!! And KNOW FOR SURE THAT I'LL NOT LET IT BURN ME!!!! WE HAVE PLANS TO KEEP!!

Body Worlds

WOW. If you ever get the chance to see this exhibit, do not miss it, it is fascinating. Preserved and then flayed, sliced and exploded bodies and body parts give you a great look at the inner workings of the human body. And not just humans, although that is far and away the bulk of the show. There was a full-size camel with a baby camel, a young filly, and a lamb. There are simultaneous exhibits going on, and many, many more specimens that travel (or not) to various locations, so the exhibit is a bit different in each city. If you want to donate your body, you can.

Thin vs. FatThere were many tales of caution, as seen in blackened and cancerous smoker's lungs, enlarged hearts, tumor-filled organs, and hardened arteries. Just look at this image and tell me you don't want to watch your weight. The fat guy died at 50 when his enlarged heart couldn't take any more.

Many of the bodies are in athletic poses, and you can see how the muscles stretch to allow people to do what they do. Amazing stuff. There is a woman who was five months pregnant at the time of her death, with the fetus still inside her. There are bodies of just the nerves, or of the heart and arteries. Flayed geek There are cases of body parts, both whole, laid open, and sliced. They had the three tiny bones from an ear canal. It's a great show for anyone who wants to learn about the body. You get a real appreciation for just how remarkable a body is, not to mention how specialized. I think this pose might suit me! Queenee being menaced by a butterfly

After we bought ourselves some souvenirs (you *knew* I wasn't leaving without the t-shirt of the bunny's circulatory system, didn't you?) we went to the butterfly room. I'll leave you with a nice big beautiful moth!

MOS-2

Feinstein and Eder

Last night the Queen and I went to see Linda Eder and Michael Feinstein at the South Shore Music Circus. It was a great show - Linda Eder has a fantastic voice. If you are familiar with the broadway musical Jekyll & Hyde, you may have heard (of) her. If not, and if you like Streisand/Garland/Broadway showtunes, check her out, you won't be disappointed. And Feinstein is the annointed interpreter-par-excellance of Gershwin. Fabulous pianist and a good singing voice to boot.

Bahia Honda State Park

We finally made it to the beach.

It's a Pool Thing

I'm being sneaky when taking pictures... Here at the Venetian Pool they are either under the waterfall or in the coral caves below it. Here again at another pool the other day. They are loving doing the pool thing and been to 4 different ones now and Sugarloaf pool a few times. Haven't even been to the beach yet! Maybe late today? LOL... The girls and I played Yatzee last night up on the top deck... Hannah killed us bad... she had the lucky dice! We pulled out the futon and they slept under the stars in the island breeze until they got an unexpected shower forcing them inside very early this morning. Tonight we'll have a look at the meteor showers. We have Tarzan coming this morning to trim trees for us. More from the islands later gators!!
