It's a steamy hot day today, in the mid 90s and humid. The Peas are here: the ElderPea is weeding Queenee's garden for her and the YoungerPea is shoveling out the poo from the chicken coop. I'm surprised the chickens aren't standing right next to her supervising, they follow her around like puppies. Queenee and the Peas will go to Bev's pool when Queenee gets home from work.
Except for the family visit and Harry Potter, July seemed like a bad news month to me. Drunk astronauts, no progress in Iraq, and too many stupid athletes to count. A lot of famous people died this past month. Beverly Sills, Tammy Faye, Ingmar Bergman, Michelangelo Antonioni, Bill Walsh, Tom Snyder ... they were probably the best known, but there were others. Now there is a website for deceased MySpace members, called MyDeathSpace. The wife of one of PopPop's golfing buddies, Phyllis Caswell, died this past Monday. PopPop, Queenee and Deacon are going to the service tonight.
August didn't get off to a good start either. The death toll is rising in Minneapolis, where the eight-lane Interstate 35W bridge collapsed into the Mississippi River during rush hour Wednesday evening. Let's keep our fingers crossed - no more Big Dig tunnel collapses, no post-All Star Game collapse by the Red Sox, and no hurricanes in the Keys!
It was an unusual month, agreed. My heart sank to my feet when I heard of Tammy Faye... she truly was a kind, loving soul... and her last 5 years lived as an amazing woman. RIP Tammy.

Living in the land of bridges made my heart skip a beat with this latest bridge collapse. Ours are checked so regularly we never really make it a concern. Driving the east coast this summer gave me the willies going over many of the bridges along I 95. Four lanes jammed up with huge heavy trucks.. feeling the road beneath the tires giggle... many a time I would comment "get me off this bridge"! What a horrible unexpected tragedy the I 35W bridge collapse is, to everyone. I know you "Big Diggers" have cause for concern!
Red Sox Nation will reign supreme! (no offense Bronx Boy) Those of you who are in Red Sox Nation, like Miss P is...I'm hoping you win the -1st base Fenway front row ticket give-away- for this Sunday's game!!!! If Miss P wins... two of you will be told where to pick them up!!
Mr. B sent a cryptic message saying it was a sunny, warm , amazing day for the totem pole raising. It was good to hear some good news! Hopefully we'll get to see some pictures!

Queenee said the viewing last night for Phyllis Caswell was very nice. PopPop didn't have to see the body, which he does not like to do, but did see Bob Caswell to offer his condolences.
ReplyDeleteAnother hot one here today, over 90F before 11am! Forecast is for thunderstorms later today, but no drop in temperature before Sunday.
PopPop and I were running around looking for a specific kind of line for his new weed whacker, and couldn't find it anywhere. He wants square-cut line, not round or hexagonal. He wants what the guys at the golf course use. After spending three hours driving around and not finding it, I suggested he try to score a spool from the golf course. At worst, they could sell him a spool, and he'd have what he wants.
Oh geez, now the canine caretaker for Ving Rhames has been killed by the four mastiffs for whom he was responsible. Mastiffs will be right up there with pit bulls and rottweilers before you know it.
ReplyDeleteWhen are people going to accept that breeding and rearing dogs counts for a lot in how they behave? If you breed two mean dogs, you will end up with at least some vicious pups. Treat those pups badly or train them to be mean, and breed them to similarly bred and raised dogs, and the resulting litters will get even nastier. Keep it up long enough and you will ruin what was a reliable enough breed.
Some people suck bigtime.
That was distressing to hear that today... Are they going to autopsy the dogs to see if they were perhaps drugged?
