New York City in Bloom

I've watched with interest the inspiring projects that Portraits of Hope has done. I love any project that gets the public involved and Garden in Transit is such a great one. The link can show you so much more than I can write here.

I'm sure you've heard or even seen some of this project. The first week in September they'll need volunteers in NYC to do the panel application of the art onto the cabs trunks, hoods and roofs. There is a Get Involved! Taxi Sign-up to volunteer. I would love to be up there being part of this project, or be there when the taxi's are all in full zoom (bloom). Very cool!

It would cost to get there to volunteer for the day and return, but even if it was $100.00 it would be money and time well spent on a day to remember.

  1. Cool project. I promise you they will have plenty of volunteers. That's one thing you can say about New Yorkers, they come out in droves for this kind of thing. I'd be there myself if I was still living in the area.

I always wanted to paint my white Subaru, at least do something with the driver's door. I had an idea to paint myself sitting in the driver's seat, trompe l'oeil style, but I was afraid it might be too distracting to other drivers and cause an accident. Maybe I could look into getting these peel-off panels and do something. If not, I have other ideas. Someday I'll do something fun with a floor...

  2. Boston doesn't have the large number of cabs that are in NYC, but we do have above-ground trolleys and buses ... this would be a refreshing change from the rolling advertisements on the trains and buses.

  3. Reminds me of the spirit of those WPA projects of the 1930's that got Diego Rivera and Thos. Hart Benton and the other guys into their acts of public art, but with a potentially heftier dose of anarchism. If it moves, paint it!

I have a solution for that... don't paint yourself naked! LOL

  5. No no, I wouldn't have been naked, that would have made people puke, not stare. Although it might cause staring problems, kind of like looking at a train wreck - it's a mess, but you can't take your eyes off of it. LOL!
