Mother's Day weekend

We had a busy weekend here. Unfortunately, things got off to a sad start with the death of Piper, who was Pea 2's black hen. We're guessing a hawk, but we'll never know for sure. I found her behind the barn late Friday afternoon. The remaining three chickens were very scared, but are doing better now.

Saturday night was cards at DamCat's house. I was out after about three hands, being neither able nor willing to match Danny's $2 raises every round. One game of that wiped me out. Personally, I think the big bets and raises in a family game like ours should be saved until the end of the night, but that's just me, I'm not much of a playah. It was a fun evening anyway, with the usual complement of good company, good food and plenty to drink (we were bending our elbows a bit).

Sunday brought the DamCat family here for brunch. FluffyDuf joined us. I made Eggs Benedict with too much lemon for Deacon's taste, but we had strawberries and cream and a chocolate coffee cake to fill the gap, so all was not lost. The weather was beautiful and the Red Sox pulled off a last inning win - what more could we ask? I hope all of us, including those among us who are mothers to furchildren, had a great day!

Too late for us this year, but someone mentioned Standing Women in the Mote. You can read their story here. Maybe next year I'll stand somewhere.

I've updated our drink for summer, we now have an Orange Fizz!

  1. Mother's Day was great....very relaxing and quiet. Brunch was delicious and it was just fabulous to sit back and be waited on!! (Many Thanks Wabbit!!) The peas behaved themselves (for most of the day) and the Sox pulled off a great come-from-behind win! How could it get any better?!

  4. Mothers Day? When was that? Did I miss something? I better get my head outa, ... the sand I guess. My sincere condolences on the loss of the hen. Nature can seem cruel sometimes. As for the drink o' the month, that orange fizzie gives me the crawlies just to look at it. Too sweet. I'm lobbying for an old mason jar of moonshine for later on. Re last weekend's fun and games, not much happenin' in central Fla. I'm waiting on a report from the Krew though.

  5. Oh my Word!!! we received a dabbling of RAIN!!! yes, large raindrops in a brief passing shower! I stood in it 'till it passed.... Been too long since I felt a raindrop!!!
Well, I wasn't with my wonderful mom... that always gets me sad.... we carry on..
Mr. R rode the bus up from KW for the day, sunday and we talked him into staying the night and going back early this morning. Mr. B was around for a little while, but as ya'll know,,, it was major work day for him. He was home around 8:ish so that was good. L,R,&P, Bo & I all went to Bahia Honda for an afternoon swim and dominoes.. called the Nan from the beach.
R and I cooked when we got back.
Filet was on sale and I sliced them into thinner patties and made *filet*burgers not hamburgers for dinner with garden tomatoes, mozzerella, onion, basil etc.. simple and yummy.. good for after the beach!!
The drink around here has been a mojito.. or navy rum, tonic & lime not sweet ones!!
Evenings lately have been perfect... Night jasmine, cool breezes, palms fluttering and windchimes.. I repeat.. simple and yummy weekend.
