The ruby-throated hummingbird appeared this past week. Queenee spotted him first, late afternoon a few days ago. PopPop got within two feet of him on Friday morning. I'll try to get a photo, but the times I've seen him I haven't had the camera handy and he doesn't hang around for more than a minute at a time. Meanwhile, revisit the link from last Spring to see photos.
I spotted a Northern Mockingbird in the redbud tree early this week. He's been singing his heart out for a good week or two, day and night. I've only seen him once, but you can't help but hear him. There are Ovenbirds around, but I have yet to see them. Other birds heard but not seen include various vireos: Warbling Vireo, Philadelphia Vireo, and Red-eyed Vireo are all likely candidates; and the Veery, his voice is unmistakable. I need to relearn my bird songs, I used to be much better at identifying various birds by their songs than I am now. I'm also going to have another look at some of my photos, I think I may have misidentified a Black and White Warbler as being a female Downey Woodpecker.
